Focus Topics: We congratulate you on making another application and showing a fantastic commitment to maintain a positive environmental ethos within your school and the surrounding community. Your application clearly reflects numerous positive efforts and actions to sustain momentum in creating an awareness of global issues and is backed up by supporting evidence. We are delighted to read that more of your staff are becoming involved in your Eco-School’s journey - fantastic!

We Also Loved:

• Your colourful notice board is packed with encouraging messages to everyone in the school and clearly demonstrates your whole school’s commitment to sustainability and is backed up by your lovely ‘We Care’ Eco-code. The notice board together with your regular focus on improving your environment through delivering assemblies, producing newsletters and social media posts helps to connect your whole school community and promotes them to address their daily behaviours to look after their environment.

•Reading through your application we were impressed by your efforts to improve the biodiversity of your school grounds. This shows a wonderful commitment to collective responsibility, helping to make your school a better place for staff and children for years to come. Your efforts to enhance your school grounds are wonderful. Regularly making bird feeders and hedgehog houses are brilliant ways to not only improve the way your school looks, but also to create additional habitats for numerous species of plants and animals. We loved reading about the new frogs in your pond.

• Your efforts to reduce and minimise unnecessary energy consumption are fantastic. Your staff and children’s dedication to constantly identify areas for improvement are wonderful to see and this is evidenced throughout your application. This approach demonstrates a clear whole school focus on raising awareness and encouraging responsible energy use and will certainly encourage the school community to be aware of energy conservation at home. We were impressed that your Eco Reps monitor the usage of lights, screens and ipads and ensure that lights are switched off in empty classrooms – well done!

• We were especially excited to read about your focus on Transport. It was wonderful to see your children demonstrating a commitment to reducing transport pollution by engaging in cycling proficiency courses – great video! This initiative is clearly embraced by the whole school community. It was fantastic to read about your ambitions to further promote more walk/wheel/cycle/scoot to school days.

• We were delighted that you have noticed an increased confidence in your children’s voices when they are talking about your school’s Eco Journey as showcased in your wonderful Year 3 presentation about ‘Looking after our local area.’

Next Year, Why Not Try… Keep going! Your application clearly reflects a commitment to take responsibility for the environment. Next year, consider providing even more evidence of the activities you carry out to further highlight the terrific work you do. This could be photographs and examples of children’s work.
